The story of Moses is one of the most eminent pieces across many faiths of the world. Moses is extensively talked about in the book of Exodus. He was an Egyptian prince who later became a prophet, a religious leader, and law giver to whom the authorship of the Torah books is attributed. Moses was born at a perilous time when the Israelites were increasing in number and the Egyptian pharaoh was keen on killing Israelite newborns. He grew up with Pharaoh’s daughter at the palace where he acquired education, leadership skills, and later became a great leader who led His people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.
Here are the 10 lessons every Christian can learn from Moses:
- Faith in God. Faith is a firm belief in things not seen. Moses had an immovable faith in God and was always confident that God will make ways even where there seemed to be no way. Leading a great crowd out of Egypt against Pharaoh’s will was a tall order that he could not have done in his own power, nonetheless he never doubted God on it and took the step of faith. Christians should build their faith on the word of God as Moses did.
- Humility. God blessed Moses with a considerable measure of wealth and power. Normally, when people acquire wealth and power they become proud, but that was not the case with Moses. He remained a humble servant to his people. Like Moses, we should learn to be humble and shun pride.
- Love. Moses did not just lead his people because God asked him to, he had an initial compassion for them. At one point he even killed an Egyptian to protect an Israelite. I don’t mean to say killing is right, but as Christians we should learn to love others as we love ourselves.
- Caution. At the call of Moses, there was a burning bush. The bush was burning but not getting consumed by the fire, a fact that made Moses very cautious. When God sent him to confront Pharaoh, he was cautious too. Like Moses, Christians should learn to be cautious when making decisions that would impact them in one way or another.
- God is not a respecter of persons. Pharaoh was a great icon among the Egyptians, but God (through Moses) proved that, to Him, titles do not matter. Christians should learn from Moses that their titles do not matter to God and should not be used to oppose God’s work.
- Ambassadors of Christ. The presence of Moses among the people of Israel was an indication of God’s presence among them. Christians in the same way should be ambassadors of Christ and people should feel the heavenly presence of the person of Christ where Christians are.
- Intercessor. Moses always stood in the gap between Israelites and God. Through Him, God blessed and communicated to the Israelites. Christians should stand in the gap by interceding for friends, relatives and acquaintances.
- Respect to the anointed of God. Pharaoh knew that Moses was an anointed servant of God, yet he was not willing to take God’s orders from him. As a result, God brought ten plagues upon Egypt, unlike pharaoh, Christians should learn to yield to the word of God through His servants.
- God will fight your battles. The story of Moses is the perfect example of how far God would go in fighting for His people. God told Moses, ‘’ Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on.’’ And he told them ‘’The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.’’ Christians should know that God loves them and is willing to fight on their behalf.
- The wilderness. Moses led the Israelites through the wilderness for years, during this time they went through tests and trials. Christians go through challenges too, but like Moses, we should learn to trust in God rather than give up or trust our own insight.
