2. Show your love, thoughtfulness and kindness every single day
Too many people underestimate the value of the small kindnesses, that can be shown to their partner every day, and they forget the importance of a tender kiss or embrace, when it is really needed. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to show your partner that you care, but if you remain constant in showing your love, thoughtfulness and kindness to each other, then your relationship will stay strong.
3. Let go of hurt
Mistakes will be made and couples will hurt one another from time to time. Don’t hold on to that hurt, it was probably unintentional. Even the most beautiful of relationships can’t be perfect all the time, forgive, forget and move on.
4. Take lessons from one another
Even couples that have been together for many years can still learn from each other. Looking at your partner can help to teach you more about yourself. Why is your partner upset? What could you do differently next time? If you do argue, don’t instantly assume it’s all your partner’s fault, look inward and check yourself and, if need be, be prepared to say ‘I’m sorry’.
5. Enjoy the ordinary
The fireworks can’t last forever, so learn to enjoy sharing the simple things in life too. In a beautiful relationship, couples share and enjoy even the most mundane of things, it’s really just what you make of things that makes them either fun or boring.
6. Don’t try to mold your partner
To truly love a person, you must love for whom and what they are, and not for what you think you can make them be. When you love someone’s faults, as much as you love their positive side, you learn to love that person, as a whole. Remember, without their faults, they would be a different person.
7. Don’t forget yourself
Remember that you can, and should, continue to follow your favorite, different interests and hobbies, even after you’ve entered into a relationship. You are still individuals and often your various interests can be beneficial and enriching to one another. It’s a bit of a cliché, but the elderly couple, for example, where he tends the garden and she does the flower arranging, is a perfect illustration of two different interests meeting in the middle.
8. Listen, as much as you talk
God gave you two ears, but just one mouth, and that should be telling you something. Listen to, and take on board, what your partner says, that’s how you learn what you both need and want.
9. Do something incredible, spontaneous and extraordinary once in a while
Whilst you should embrace the ordinary, you shouldn’t give up on the extraordinary. Do something amazing and unexpected for your partner sometimes. Everyone likes nice and pleasant surprises and it’s a great way to show how much you really care.
10. Work as a team
In a soccer game, the goalkeeper is at one end of the pitch, saving goals, and the striker is at the other, trying to score. Each has different objectives, but if they don’t work together, they won’t win. In a beautiful relationship, you may both have your own individual goals, but so long as you work together as a team, the team will win as a whole.
