Soldiers. Mothers. Women.
Time was, when women had to choose between having a career and being mothers, but thankfully that time is now behind us.
And if you were ever in need of proof of that fact, this picture is surely it.
The historic image shows 10 serving US soldiers, in full camouflage, breastfeeding their babies, and it’s glorious.
The picture was taken by Texas-based photographer Tara Ruby, who was on active duty in the US Air Force from 1997 – 2001, before turning her hand to photography.
Tara came up with the idea for the photo after seeing a post by the organisation Breastfeeding in Combat Boots about a new breastfeeding room at the Fort Bliss army base – something that was never available to her when she was in service.
Posting the picture on the Tara Ruby Facebook page, Tara said: ‘Breastfeeding their babies doesn’t make them less of a soldier, I believe it makes them a better one.
‘Juggling the tasks and expectations of a soldier, plus providing for their own in the best way they possibly can, makes these ladies even stronger for it.’
We couldn’t agree more.
