It appears as if President Muhammadu Buhari believes in self-determination of indigenous people only when the people are Muslims.
Buhari is caught on record calling for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara and the State of Palestine and calling on the United Nations to approve a referendum in these countries without delay. He made this call during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015.

Curiously, there is a strong agitation for self-determination of the people of Biafra in the South-East of Nigeria, and Buhari has locked up a pro-Biafra leader, Nnamdi Kanu and the Nigerian Police acting on his orders, declared that publicly mentioning the word Biafra is illegal.
Kanu has been declared a prisoner of conscience by human rights groups in Nigeria.
Buhari is also under intense scrutiny of his hate speech against the people of the oil rich Niger Delta during his trip to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia over the weekend.
